BOARD of DIRECTORS:

President - Dorothy York, DVM, MPVM

Dr. York has been a veterinarian for over 30 years, and retired as manager of the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility in 2007. She currently works at the San Diego County Animal Shelter and the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility as a veterinarian. She also works on the Neuter Scooter bus and does charity veterinary work in Mexico. She is a founding member of H.E.A.R.T and has been on the board since 2006.

Vice President - Laura Backe

Laura has been a Social Work Counselor for San Diego - Imperial Counties Development Services Inc. for over 10 years. She has been a volunteer at the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility for over 15 years, and is an advocate and volunteer for local animal rescue organizations. She has spearheaded efforts to exit hundreds of geriatric dogs from the shelter over the years, and has advocated and funded the medical care of many senior animals at the shelter in order to enhance their adoptability and provide them comfort.

Secretary - Diane Verry

Diane has been a volunteer at the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility for over 11 years and has been instrumental in advocating for better conditions for all animals (with a little extra to the cats) at the shelter. She attends numerous adoption events throughout the year and has volunteered hundreds of hours/year to the shelter. Diane works full time at Sempra Generation as Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Planning & Construction and Vice President and Controller as well as their entire staff. She has acquired small grants from Sempra Energy for the shelter every year. Her family consists of her husband Larry and their two cats, Rocky and Louie (both CVACF rescues.).

Treasurer - Deborah Martin

Deborah worked as a bookkeeper for over 25 years, and spends her free time as a Chula Vista Animal Care Facility and H.E.A.R.T volunteer. She graduated from the California Regional Occupational Vocational program as a Veterinary Medical Assistant and has donated hundreds of hours as a volunteer in the Veterinary Medical Department at the Shelter. She is a foster parent for orphaned Shelter kittens and puppies.  That is how she came to meet Buffy.  (see stories on the web site)

Web Administrator - Paula Tschauner

Paula Tschauner has many years experience working in the international marketing department of several computer manufacturers in San Diego.  She has worked in the Frankfurt Germany and Lausanne, Switzerland offices of the respective manufacturers. 

In addition to her working career, Paula has taken a series of Computer Information Courses at Southwestern College, leading to a certificate which included completion of the Adobe products, i.e., Dreamweaver, FLASH, Fireworks, and PhotoShop.  She now handles the job of updating the H.E.A.R.T. web site, which she created as one of her class projects.  She has been involved with the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility since 2000, volunteering time at adoption events and working on putting together the Shelter’s news letter.

The H.E.A.R.T. organization was founded in 2006 to assist with the ever-increasing need for treating stray and abandoned animals in the Chula Vista area, and to promote positive, responsible animal welfare through adoption, spaying & neutering.

H.E.A.R.T. is a nonprofit public benefit corporation designated by Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. EIN # 37-1522742
