Title: Contributions Make a Difference HEART logo

Originally constructed to house approximately 200 animals, Chula Vista's animal shelter's current daily occupancy fluctuates between 350 - 500 stray dogs, cats and pocket pets. Intakes of stray animals have increased at an alarming rate, with over 9,000 animals entering the shelter in calendar year 2006. Over 10,500 animals are expected in 2007!

Current staffing and city budgets cannot adequately meet the needs of this many animals and the shelter is in dire need of assistance in the form of volunteers, funding and supplies. That's where H.E.A.R.T. comes in. Funds raised by H.E.A.R.T. help ensure that adequate medical care is provided to shelter animals, allows more animals to enter our adoption program, and other animal advocate organizations are supported by our efforts as well.

In 2006, over 700 new-born kittens and puppies entered the shelter. Nearly 50 volunteer "foster parents" provided home care to these newborns
for up to 8 weeks. With the medications and milk supplied, 90% of the newborns were successfully adopted after foster care.

In 2007, H.E.A.R.T. will provide medications and milk supplement for the entire year's foster program, and we anticipate over 1,000 newborns this year!

Your contributions make this possible!
