CVACF and H.E.A.R.T strive to educate the public to be responsible pet owners by spay/neutering their pets. H.E.A.R.T. sponsored 2 free cat spay/neuter events on the "Neuter Scooter" this year and spayed/neutered 100 Chula Vista cats at no cost. The neuter Scooter (sponsored by SNAP - Spay Neuter Action Project) operates a low-cost, mobile clinic that is in Chula Vista twice/month. Call SNAP for more information at: (619) 525-3047.

Pima Medical Institute has started a new veterinary medical program to train student to become Registered Veterinary Technicians. Their new campus is next door to the City of Chula Vista’s Animal Care Facility. The partnership forged between the CVACF and Pima will ensure quality care of the animals and professional training for the students. Pima and the City of Chula Vista have done a remodel of the medical, surgical and isolation rooms. They have installed a state-of- the art x-ray machine and Pima students will get the hands-on training they need so that the animals will not have to be transported “off site” to have quality x-rays taken. The new dental machine will allow students to learn hands-on teeth scaling & polishing. Pima has also provided blood analysis machines so the animals can have their blood drawn, and checked when needed, on site, as opposed to sending it out to a local lab. All-in-all things are looking up for the “residents” of the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility
